The intensive twelve week Pet Partner Team
Training course combines lecture, discussion, videos, role playing,
mentoring, and hands-on training with your Pet Partner. Coursework
covers the fundamental information needed to succeed as a Pet Partner.
Topics include:
Volunteers
– Introduction to the Pet Partner program; AAA and AAT; your needs and
responsibilities
Animals
– Where your animal fits in; acting as your animal’s advocate
Clients
– Basics of client interaction; client disorders/disabilities
Visiting
– Preparing for and executing a successful visit
Facilities
– Types of facilities; regulations and policies; staff relationships;
reducing risk
The Team Training Course includes a 10
week course, consisting of 12 sessions of hands on training with your
Pet Partner, mentoring by active Pet Partner Teams,
and culminates with
the Pet Partners Evaluation during which the handler and their partner
are assessed to determine their suitability to function effectively as a
Pet Partners team. To read
